A records are crucial components of the Domain Name System (DNS). They map a domain name or subdomain to a corresponding IP address, directing visitors to your website when they enter your domain name in their browser. This guide details how to manage A records within your cPanel hosting account.
Steps to Add and Manage A records
Accessing the Zone Editor
1. Navigate to cPanel’s login page provided by the web hosting provider and enter your cPanel username and password.
2. Within the cPanel interface, search for the “Domains” section. This might be prominently displayed on the homepage or categorized under a broader section like “Software” or “Web Applications.”
3. Click on the option labeled “Zone Editor” or a similar icon/menu item within the “Domains” section. This will display a list of all domain names associated with your cPanel account.
Creating a New A Record
4. Locate the domain name for which you wish to create a new A record. This could be your primary domain name or a subdomain you’ve established.
5. Click the button labeled “+ A RECORD” or a similar action to initiate the process of adding a new A record.
6. Enter the following information in the designated fields:
- Name
Enter the domain or subdomain name for which this A record applies. The “@” symbol typically represents the main domain name.
- Address
Enter the IPv4 address of the server where the website or service associated with this A record resides.
7. Click the button labeled “ADD AN A RECORD” or a similar action to finalize the creation of the new A record.
Managing Existing A Records
The Zone Editor section also allows you to manage existing A records associated with your domain names:
- Edit an A Record
Locate the record you wish to modify and click the “Edit” button next to it. Update the necessary details and save the changes.
- Delete an A Record
Select the record you wish to remove and click the “Delete” button associated with it. Use caution when deleting A records, as this can impact how visitors access your website or service.
